Mr. & Ms. Avishkar 2014

Its always good to be recognized. And one feels good that he/ she is recognized by the younger crowd.

I being both a doctor & a teacher, always feel good about being recognized positively by the younger crowd especially the students.

Yesterday, I was called to judge an event in the festival which these MBBS students celebrate in our college. The event was titled Mr. & Ms. Avishkar 2014. I felt nice to be a part of such an event, interact with the students & judge students with great talent.

But then there were certain obvious flaws, which I feel I should mention in my blog. They are as follows,

  • The event got delayed by 1 hour. Hence I went home also late. Nevertheless, once committed I had to be present to judge the event.
  • I was escorted around 4 pm to the venue & I was made to sit on the first row seat. No one is asking me anything as to what I want in terms of tea/ coffee etc, until the 3rd judge a specific RJ from a radio station, an extremely eccentric & a funny man arrived.
  • He sat on the other row & hence we (me & a 2nd judge) were requested to sit near him. Why the vice versa did not occur is probably an obvious fact.
  • Only after he was offered something to drink, the student organizers thought of being courteous to us too & we were asked our preferences as to what we would like to have. Funny but again obvious.
  • Before that RJ came, the 2nd co-judge had declared the RJ to be an irritating RJ. She & her husband never liked him because of the irritating method of his presentation on his radio show. But once she sat near him she went totally gaga & exchanged numbers & was over enthu to give her intro to that RJ.
  • The students arranged only for 1 mike initially to be shared among us 3 judges. But once that star RJ had arrived he was given a separate mike & we 2 ladies had to share the mike & I lost interest in asking questions. Looking at the number of sponsors that had sponsored Aavishkar 2014, arranging an extra mike wouldn't have been a problem for them but .......................
  • So when the time came to declare the winners, the eccentric RJ and the 2nd Judge decided that they would not award any of the girls Ms. Avishkar title because none of the 2 judges liked any of the girl's performances. I told them that the title of the programme we have been called to judge is Mr. & Ms. Aavishkar & we 3 would have to decide one girl together, they were bent upon not listening & decided that 2 guys would get the prize & no girl would get anything. Ridiculous. The RJ had come to promote himself & as the contest was over went to woo the audience with his so called charm & hence was not interested what happened with results. So in the end we 2 lady judges agreed to include a girl too as the title demanded.
  • At the end of the competition The RJ was called to speak a few words but they never felt like inviting me or the other lady to speak a few words.
I now retrospectively think, why was I called as a judge, when they could not even give me a mike to speak when I was judging nor did they call me to speak on stage. So the next time if I would be invited I would have to think whether to invest time in these so called programmes.

I am also remembering my friend Meghna who left the institute exactly 1 week back. I miss her thoroughly as I can't share my feelings, true feelings with her anymore. Had she been here I would have narrated this above described incident & would have eagerly awaited her comments.
