Fight against corruption - the Anna Hazare style

I & my husband often have debates. And one day we had on India.

"Nothing can happen in India. There is a lot of corruption & these politicians do nothing but just fill their pockets with money", said my husband, "just see how systems in other countries run & Urwashi you will find the difference".

This statement must have come out of many people's mouth in India stating India a mediocre country (comparision with USA) & 3rd class politics.

Then suddenly Anna Hazare like some God was tired of hearing these statements repeatedly & hence went on a hunger strike against corruption. Many people supported this & his protest turned into a success.

I read an article in a local news paper today written by Bhavin Jhankaria. As far as I know & if I am correct, Bhavin Jhankaria is a Radiologist & as a medical student I read his books on Radiology. In the article he cites 2 examples of his friends. One doctor friend of his had a patient whom he had operated upon. To get an insuarrance claim the patient wanted to hide certain facts of his history pertaining to his illness. He wanted his doctor to do the same. 2nd example was of his friends son who recorded a pirated version of a certain movie & gave the movie to his friends as return gift on his birthday. Whe Dr. Bhavin said his friend that this was wrong, his friend responded by saying that its a usual thing & nothing to get surprised about.

Dr. Bhavins views & my match a lot.

We select the government & the governing people. Almost all the people in India have given bribe to a certain official of any rank in some or the other way. Its only when things turn out of control, when no result is achieved after bribing, the people start singing a national song, corrupt Indian government.

All the people who supported Mr. Anna Hazare must have supported an act of corruption in some or the other way. How many actually meant what they supported? How many had the guts Like Mr. Anna Hazare to protest against corruption in a real way? Their protest comes only when they hear on television different deeds of corruption of the governing officials & their different scams.

If we Indians really want to make India a better place to live, make a system worth functioning in a systemic non - corrupt manner, we have to change ourselves.

'Sirf utho nahi India, jago re'.
