Sports

India & Indian people are trying hard to look good in the international arena. They speak good English, look good, have a good foothold in fashion industry, IT as well as pharmaceutical sectors. Movies & entertainment also has progressed to a considerable extent. But I still am not liking it. Now one would ask why?

I am not a sports person & I don't follow any particular sport including our national sport cricket. I hate all these cricket players who play for our country India. Reason being, football. Amazed! Yes, football is the reason why I hate every damn Indian cricketer. I don't follow football but I watched a couple of matches with my husband who is a hardcore football fan. Here I realized that football also called by the name soccer is a amazing game. It increases the same level of excitation which cricket once used to evoke, especially during the world cup days. But, all of a sudden came a stupid thing called IPL who spoiled the entire charm of cricket. What followed after these matches is known to the entire nation & that is parties & repeated parties. Cricket is now considered to be a sport that gives you a reason to party harder for all wrong reasons but does give any kick to the players for a proud reason called India. I was amazed to find out that these football players are so hardcore their own countrymen that they would do anything to win a game. To my surprise India did not even qualify for FIFA 2010. Reasons  ---- Baichung Bhutia preparing for next season of a dance show not football, low stamina levels of Indian football players as compared to international levels, lack of proper facilities even in cities like Mumbai & cricket being a more popular sport in India. Except Baichung Bhutia no Indian player has became famous & he too has played very little in the international front.

Hockey is a game where two players have given consistence performance & they are 'Major Dhyan Chand Singh' & Dhanraj Pillai. I read a few lines about Dhanraj Pillai in which I read that he played for 4 olympics & 4 world cups but surprisingly Indian hockey association has not kept any record of his goals. Very funny. As we all know & rightly shown in a famous Hindi movie 'Chak De', Indian hockey women's team have won a world cup once & that too long time back.

Sania Mirza, is a famous women tennis player, played fairly good tennis but was in the news more for her personal life than professional. She played nicely against most international players & won 2 international titles, one in single & one in mixed doubles. Again in mens tennis, we have Mahesh Bhupati & Leander Peas who won many mixed doubles matches but their place in singles matches is doubtful.

Again in badminton there are players in India like Saina Nehwal from Haryana & Prakash Padukone. Saina who is currently rated No. 6 by Badminton World Federation has won many titles & has been a consistent player. She replaced Aparna Popat as No. 1 Indian Badminton player. Hope she remains in this place for a longer time. Prakash Padukone, as we all know is the father of a Bollywood Star, Deepika Padukone who herself played badminton for a considerable time in her life which is seen in her physique. He runs a badminton Academy in Bangalore, training many young badminton aspirants.

Some famous shooters like Anjali Bhagwat, Abhinav Bindra, Jaspal Rana, Rajyavardhan Singh, have significant contribution in shooting arena.

Weight lifters like Khali, Molly S. Benedict have also lifted up India's name in the field of  weight lifting & wrestling competitions.

We Indians have participated in many international games, won many, but the performance has never been that considerable. P. T. Usha ran many races internationally but replaced by who??????? Very few people come on the international front giving a good performance. Many years have gone by very very few medals have come home.

I hope in the future, many people will be interested in sports for good reasons, doing India proud.
