Mumbai & its silence. Today is a Bandh.

Mumbai is silent. Very very silent. Stunned! Surprised! Yes for all those who know Mumbai even a small bit would not believe Mumbai to be silent. Yes, silence can be described in many ways & has many meanings but only in a few incidences can it be associated with the Maya Nagri MUMBAI.

Today is India Bandh, i.e. Bharat Bandh. Reason is that the opposition is protesting against the reigning government against the increasing rise in the cost of living, like the rise in fuel prices, hike in vegetable prices etc etc.So they decided to protest against the government.

Surprisingly, these people are successful in bringing a total close in the day to day affairs in the entire nation.

Now as compared to this, the government ordered that all the government employees should be present for their work by 11.00 AM otherwise strict action will be taken against them. And so I had to be present at my college. With all the fears in my mind I started from home, rather we, i.e. me & my husband started together, as he too had work at CST area.

But when we started by roadways towards our work place we realized the impact of the Bandh. Mumbai, the busiest city in India, where we automatically start running without any conscious effort, is very very extraordinarily, surprisingly empty. The journey from Bhandup to Mumbai CST or to Byculla which by roadways takes minimal 2 hours during peak hours took maximum 1/2 hour to reach today. I felt nice to reach fast & see the roads empty but felt nauseated to see Mumbai in this state.

Hope this impact full Bandh would help in regularizing the cost of living & help the common to live peacefully. But I guess even this Bandh has caused difficulties in the life of the common man. Some people actually had to spend from their pockets to have some important work done today. So I think we should think of a better way of getting our work done.
